More than 10,000 Malaysians have booked this all new Honda at the time we were writing this review. This just shows the ‘POWER Of Dreams’ branding in our country. Currently the No.1 non national car brand in the country and superseded only by the national car brand Perodua, Honda has launched the BR-V just months ago to maintain this crown despite having stiff competition from Toyota.

The BR-V arrives at a time when many Malaysians are looking for an economical, well priced family vehicle and having the Honda logo seems to be positive trend.

The BR-V has more than enough personality to stand out most notable is its sports wagon styling, emphasised by very short body overhangs and strongly defined (especially at the front) wheel arches filled by 16-inch multi-spoke design alloys.

The rising waistline bodystyle is capped by large glasshouse area and a non boxy outlook which deters many Malaysians from buying MPV’s.

The BR-V’s car cabin offers surprisingly roomy accommodation for 4-5 adults plus 2 teenagers in the last row with adequate headroom.

Fit and finish is neat and the cabin is well put together with a durable feel that bodes well for family users; a well-considered mix of trim finishes keeps it all interesting. The switchgear and controls are all from the Honda family and you get rooftop vents for the efficient air-conditioning, making them easily accessible to rear passengers.

The BR-V is also sold in a higher ‘V’ variant (selling for RM92,800.00) which takes it a step higher by providing B-segment premium features such as 6.1” Display Audio and Auto Air Conditioning, Push Start Button and Smart Entry, leather trims, and leather steering wheels with switch audio control.

The practicality of the All-New BR-V will impress with its multi-configuration seats where 2nd row seats adjusts with an easy One Touch Tilt & Tumble in a 60:40 configuration while 3rd row seats comes in a 50:50 Tilt & Tumble. A generous 11 cup holders offer the utility fit for a big family on the go without compromising on the space.

The BR-V is known for many class toppers such as the biggest trunk space (223 litres with all seats up, 539 litres when 3rd row seats are folded), highest engine output (120PS) and highest ground clearance (201mm).

Row-two passengers are as well catered for with loads of space around their heads and legs and reclining seatbacks (YES, the 2nd row seats recline a few degrees to offer resting comfort) to increase comfort levels. 3 passengers can travel comfortably side-by-side in the middle row. Right at the back, the 6th and 7th passengers have individual seats in the 3rd row with good air condition vents and they will accommodate an adult but really are best for youngsters. This second row seats also folds for extra cargo room.

The BR-V is an exceedingly easy car to feel at home in on the move. Importantly, it’s quiet and refined even when zipping along at the legal limit. It also feels well damped, takes corners level, brakes reassuringly and rides well. Handling feels safe and predictable, and overall it’s perfect for its multifunctional practical family motoring role.

If you’re looking for a seven-seat vehicle and do not want a boxy MPV, or even if you’re not looking or needing a 7 seat vehicle, this Honda is a solid buy that is pleasant enough to be a daily office commuter and a weekend lifestyle vehicle for your bikes, diving equipment or even your group of friends who love food hunting in the smaller Malaysian towns. Buy and drive this BR-V with the added peace of mind of a 5-year transferable warranty.
