The very first Cub, the C100, was designed by Sochiro Honda himself and was introduced in 1958. Since then the family, which includes the popular C50 and C90 models, has topped 100 million sales worldwide, making it the most popular motor vehicle of all time.

This latest Cub, called the Honda Super Cub C125, is powered by a simple 125cc air-cooled, two-valve, four-stroke motor that is claimed to deliver a staggering 188.4mpg, giving a range of 152miles from the tiny 3.7 litre fuel tank. In old-school Cub style, the 9.5bhp engine has a semi-automatic gearbox. The four speed box is foot operated, but has an automatic centrifugal clutch for maximum simplicity.

Continuing the family lineage, the C125 features the classic steel underbone frame, but modern updates include cast wheels, disc brakes and 26mm telescopic forks to replace the quirky leading link front end used on the C90. Modern touches include full LED lights and a keyless ignition system with built in immobiliser.

The simplicity of the new Super Cub means that it weighs just 109kg fuelled and the C125 comes with two pearlescent colours at launch, either blue or red.
